Making your own leather pouch with Jeff Luke

An everyday bag for the modern frontier

We're so excited to be working with Jeff Luke of Po Boy Gear to offer a one-day leather bag making class on November 9th from 9-5pm.

Mr. Luke’s class will cover basic construction, dying, and sewing of your very own traditional leather bag. Students will be using the same materials seen below but be able to choose the style of their own pouch flap.

Never worked with leather before? No problem! Jeff’s class is designed to be informative for a novice or experienced leather worker.

Supplies are provided! You only need to bring some creativity and the drive to walk away with your own completed bag. If you’d like to have additional art/personalize your bag above the basic bag (see photos) you will need get in touch with Jeff Luke about the additional costs involved.

About Jeff Luke

My name is Jeff Luke, or "PoBoy", as I've become known. Since I was a young kid, I have always loved hunting, fishing, archery, working with my hands and the great outdoors. I started doing leather work about 12 years ago, doing mostly motorcycles seats and bags, but quickly lost interest. Fast forward to a few years ago, when my fascination with preserving our American history, coupled with a desire to get back into leather and joining the NMLRA, led me to making hunting pouches, bags and other period muzzleloading accoutrements.

2019 has been a pinnacle year for me, having been blessed to be selected as one of the New and Aspiring Artists at the annual Contemporary Longrifle Association show, as well as having my bags appear on the cover of Muzzle Blasts on two occasions.

My passion for traditional American craftsmanship continues, as does my desire to pass on the ways of old to anyone willing to learn.

A huge thank you to Rick, Ethan, and the entire NMLRA team for providing me this opportunity! I'm really looking forward to this. Hopefully if all goes well, I can do it again, and I look forward to helping or the NMLRA in other ways as well. Preserving our American history is an important role and I'm honored to be a small part!

Thank you again,

Jeff
